Blackie, one of our cats had babies about the third week of March.
She has always been a very peculiar cat. She would never let us near her,
even though we fed her and had raised her from a kitten. She was pretty much a feral cat that
lived at our house. I had taken Tiger and Snickers in to be fixed, and even though I
had an appointment for Blackie, I never could catch her...the rest is history.
It was really weird, we finally had decided that she WAS indeed
pregnant, and she had them a week later!
Blackie would never let us pet the kittens. She had 4, a grey boy, a black boy,
a black girl and then this striped girl. We kept searching for them, when we would find them,
she would move them again. Eventually, she moved them under this big pile of wood
we have in the back yard, and we could never find them.
She never was a very good mother to them. I would find her sunning on the car port, and
wondered where those little cats were, hoping they were still alive.
The kittens finally started venturing out of the hiding place.
I think they were getting hungry. They had nursed nearly 2.5 months!
We were able to catch the grey and black boys. We tamed them down some,
and the MacDonald kids wanted them. So we got rid of those two.
We finally caught the striped one, but could never get the last black one.
Finally, we were able to catch her, she tamed down the easiest of all of them.
We named the Striped one Bengal, Jim thinks she looks like a Bengal Tiger.
The Black one we named Snowflake. I told Jim and the Kids, I got
to name the last black one, because I never get to name any of our pets.
So I teased them all by saying I wanted to name her something like
"Beautiful Sparkly Princess" or "Fluffy" or "Velvet Glitter Cloud".
They all groaned! I knew they wouldn't like any of those names,
they were to 'Girly'! I do stuff like that because I know the boys
will hate it! I had fun teasing them though. Truth is...I was not
coming up with anything! So Jim came up with Snowflake.
She is Midnight black....but her name is Snowflake.
I tease the boys sometimes and just call her "Diamond Sparkly Snowflake"!
